Your book is an asset. Most software treats it as a mailing list.

A book of business is a renewal commission stream attached to a set of households. It can be valued, audited, migrated and sold. Software that models it as rows in a contact table cannot do any of those things.

Migration

Bring whatever you actually have

A CSV. An AgencyBloc export. A folder of carrier commission statements and a spreadsheet you have been maintaining since 2019. All of it is normal, and all of it is workable.

Start a migration
  1. 01

    Export

Whatever format you hold it in. We have not yet been sent one we could not read.

  2. 02

    Normalise

Policies collapse into households. Duplicates surface as a review queue rather than being merged silently.

  3. 03

    Reconcile

Every policy matched against carrier commission statements. What does not match becomes work, not a footnote.

  4. 04

    Run

Quoting, renewals and compliance from one desk, through your first Open Enrollment on the platform and past it.

The platform

Four surfaces, and nothing else

Every feature here exists because an agent lost money without it. There is no dashboard of vanity metrics, because a book does not need one.

Household records

One record per household, not one per policy. Dependants, prior plan years, notes, consents and documents live on the same page, and a policy is an event on the record rather than the record itself.

  • Every policy the household has ever held, in one column
  • Consent records timestamped and exportable
  • Full note and call log, chronological, never truncated

Quoting desk

Four plans side by side, the subsidy applied live as you change the income estimate, and network and formulary matching that runs before the price column is drawn.

  • Provider match against each carrier's live directory
  • Formulary match with tier, step therapy and prior authorisation
  • Total-cost modelling at low, expected and bad-year use

Renewal desk

Every November, your book is re-ranked by exposure rather than alphabetically. Households whose benchmark moved, whose plan was discontinued, or whose credit fell come to the top.

  • Benchmark shift alerts when the second-lowest Silver moves
  • Crosswalk view when a carrier exits a rating area
  • Outreach sequenced by dollars at risk

Compliance

FFM registration, resident and non-resident licences, carrier appointments and continuing education, each with a hard gate rather than a soft warning.

  • Lapsed FFM registration locks the quoting desk. No override
  • Warnings at 60, 30 and 7 days before every expiry
  • Records held for the plan year plus ten

Commission

The schedule, printed rather than implied

ACA commission is almost entirely per member per month. It is filed inside the carrier's rate, which is why a broker costs a consumer nothing, and why the schedule is a public fact rather than a negotiation.

Assumes 2.1 covered lives per household and a full twelve months in force. Real books churn, and churn is the number that decides whether a book grows.

We charge a flat fee per household per year and never touch the commission stream.1 If we took a percentage, our incentive would be to grow your book rather than to keep it, and those are not the same job.

Compliance

Gates, not warnings

Assisting with a Marketplace enrolment without current FFM registration is not a policy question, so it is not modelled as one.

  • Lapsed registration locks the desk

No override, no supervisor path. The platform warns at 60, 30 and 7 days before the lapse.2

  • Consent is a record, not a checkbox

Timestamped, attached to the household, exportable, and retained for the plan year plus ten.

  • Non-resident licensing is handled here

Thirty-four states, with appointment status per carrier per state and expiry dates on the profile.

  • Your book leaves whenever you want

Full machine-readable export any day of the contract, consents and notes included. No exit fee, no notice period.

Frequently asked

What agents ask before they move

You export whatever you have - a CSV, an AgencyBloc dump, or a stack of carrier commission statements - and the desk normalises it into household records, reconciles it against the carrier statements line by line, and hands back a list of anything that did not match. Median completion is six business days. Consent records and notes carry across; nothing is silently dropped.

No. Ledger & Co charges a flat platform fee per household per year and never touches the commission stream. Carrier payments go to your NPN, on the carrier's own schedule, and the reconciliation queue exists to make sure they arrive in full. If we took a percentage, our incentive would be to grow your book rather than to keep it.

You do. Full export in a machine-readable format is available every day of the contract, including consent records and the note log, and there is no exit fee and no notice period on export. A platform that holds your book hostage is competing on lock-in rather than on the product.

The quoting desk locks for that agent until registration is restored. There is no override and no supervisor path, because assisting with a Marketplace enrolment without current registration is not a policy question. The platform warns at 60, 30 and 7 days out.

Yes. Hierarchy is modelled explicitly - agency splits and upline overrides appear as their own rows on every statement rather than being netted invisibly into a single figure. Downline agents see their own book and their own compensation, and never the hierarchy above them.

Thirty-four, covering both federally-facilitated and state-based marketplaces. Non-resident licensing support is handled by the desk rather than left to you, and appointment status per carrier per state is tracked on your profile with expiry dates.

For agents

Send an export. See your own book in it.

The fastest way to evaluate this is against your real data. Send whatever you have, and you will get a reconciled view of your own book back within a week.
